Atlanta has lost its bid for $29.3 million in federal transportation funding to expand the Atlanta Streetcar, according to a report from the AJC.
The funding would have extended the existing 2.7 mile loop from Downtown to the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail. Atlanta has previously won two federal grants to fund the streetcar and BeltLine projects.
The Atlanta Streetcar has been plagued by staffing, safety and security issues since it opened last December, and was chastised by federal transit authorities.
