Police warn about trees down, roads closed, flooding risks

Police in Brookhaven and Dunwoody are warning residents via social media about risks from heavy rain.

In Dunwoody, Chamblee-Dunwoody Road is currently open, but police will have to shut it down again when a fallen tree is removed from the power lines. Peeler Road at Cherring Drive, near Brook Run Park was closed earlier today for down power lines, police posted on social media. Georgia Power was on the scene at both locations as of 10 a.m., the updated Facebook post said.

Officer Trey Nelson, a spokesman for Dunwoody police, said he wants people to drive slowly and use caution during the continued rainy conditions.

“Currently, our city will only have one roadway with closure activity due to Georgia Power resetting lines at Chamblee-Dunwoody Road at North Springs Drive,” Nelson wrote in an email. “This repair should be completed by evening rush hour.”

In Brookhaven, flooding at Redding Road between Peachtree and Caldwell roads caused police to close the road, the department posted on Facebook.

Officer Carlos Nino, a spokesman for the department, said the National Weather Service has issued flood warnings through this evening for the North Fork Peachtree Creek, which runs through Brookhaven.

Sandy Springs Communications Director Sharon Kraun said the city is watching Nancy Creek, too.

“We are keeping an eye on Nancy Creek, but have not had any reports of overflow,” Kraun said.  “As with any weather event, any needed watches or warnings are posted on our social media: Facebook.com/SandySpringsGA or Twitter @SandySpringsGA and urgent warnings are posted on our website.”
