The Woodruff Foundation will donate $10 million to the Georgia World Congress Center for its Centennial Olympic Park plan, according to a report from the AJC. The same foundation two decades ago helped lay the groundwork to transform the 21-acre park into a downtown jewel. The changes envisioned for Centennial include new event space on park grounds with a downstairs restaurant, turning a section of Andrew Young International Boulevard into a pedestrian walkway and a new entrance to the greenspace.
Atlanta police began a new bike force on Thursday in Midtown, weeks after Mayor Kasim Reed announced efforts to cut down on crime by 20 percent. According to CBS46, the four-person bike squad will mostly patrol residential neighborhoods that have seen an uptick in violent offenses. The patrols take place between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
