Buckhead Community Improvement District board members on Dec. 15 voted to draft a resolution proposed by Atlanta City Councilman Howard Shook, thanking the Georgia Department of transportation for its work on the Peachtree Road project.
Specifically, Shook asked the board to thank GDOT for its work soliciting public input, which led to a decision not to include bike lanes on Peachtree Road.
“Unless you’ve been asleep you should know Georgia DOT finalized its recommendation for re-striping Peachtree between Deering Road and Pharr Road, which are the limits of their project,” BCID Executive Director Jim Durrett said.
Shook said he planned to bring the BCID’s resolution to a Dec. 16 special called meeting of Atlanta City Council, where he would ask council members to pass the resolution.
“I believe GDOT has worked so hard and so earnestly to make everyone happy—naively; it’s probably the last time they will actually have a public hearing,” Shook said.
The “rigorous engineering analysis” and attentive and patient attitudes shown by GDOT representatives made Shook want to thank the department, he said.
“I’ve authored a resolution profusely acknowledging their attentiveness to public opinion and their rigorous engineering that we’ll hopefully take up and pass at a special called meeting of the Atlanta City Council tomorrow,” Shook said.
