The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System will open its eighth new library as part of Phase I of the Library Building Program with a grand opening celebration on Thursday, June 30, at 11 a.m. The new 15,000-square-foot Southeast Atlanta Library will be located at 1463 Pryor Road. This library replaces the Georgia Hill, Thomasville Heights and Carver Libraries, all of which closed to the public in May 2016 in preparation for the grand opening of the new facility.

The Atlanta Marriott Marquis in Downtown has unveiled its recent $78 million renovation, rounding out its $216 million total transformation that has taken place over the past decade. The hotel, built by architect John Portman, has been a Downtown fixture since 1985, hosting travelers from two Super Bowls (’94 and ’00), the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, All-Star games from every professional sport and countless conventions. Atlanta welcomed 51 million visitors last year, representing a 50 percent increase in visitation over the past six years. Last month alone, Atlanta posted the highest hotel occupancy rate for that month on record, coming in at 82 percent.

The Spence, the Midtown restaurant that celebrity chef Richard Blais opened in 2012, closed its doors for good over the weekend, according to a report at Eater Atlanta. The final day of service was Saturday, a representative for Concentrics Restaurants, The Spence’s parent company, confirmed.
