Members of the Tucker City Council approved four contracts for construction on the Mountain Industrial Boulevard at US 78 Safety Improvement Project during a meeting on Oct. 13.
During Tuesday’s meeting, council members approved contracts with the Georgia Department of Transportation, CMES Inc., Lowe/MacKay, and Tucker Summit Community Improvement District to make improvements on the U.S. 78 and Mountain Industrial Boulevard interchange. The project will improve safety, reduce crash risk, and enhance traffic flow.
Improvements will include realigning the eastbound and westbound ramps to provide improved sight distance, installing a narrow median on Mountain Industrial Boulevard from Greer Circle to Elmdale Drive to reduce left-turn conflicts, improving traffic signals, complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and closing Sarr Parkway.
Members of the city council also approved pre-application for funding through the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program (GOSP) for improving Henderson Park. Tucker city council members adopted the Henderson Park Master Plan in September, which covers six projects to improve the park.

The GOSP would fund 75% of the project’s funding, which would equal $1,344,153, and the city would cover $336,038.25.
During Tuesday’s meeting, city council members also made changes to language in the Tucker Code to reflect the city’s responsibility as a Phase 2 MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System) permittee. The permit regulates the discharge of untreated stormwater runoff from public storm sewer systems into local rivers, lakes, and streams.
