Brookhaven’s arborist is asking residents to be on the lookout for pine and ambrosia beetles, both dangerous to trees.
Pine beetles have been found in the areas of Ragley Hall Road, North Thompson Road, D’Youville Condominiums, Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Cambridge Park, Waddleston Way and E. Osborne Road, according to a city press release.
Ambrosia beetles have been located in the areas of Granger Drive and Bailiff Court/Osborne Road area.
The southern pine beetle is one of the most destructive insect pests of pines, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Most ambrosia beetles attack weakened, injured or dying trees and shrubs, according to forestry experts, and some attack fresh-cut wood as well. A few species are also know to attack apparently healthy trees and shrubs.
