Gay-rights groups are mounting a campaign to dissuade Amazon from selecting Atlanta or eight other cities for its new headquarters.
According to a report in USA Today, the LGBT organizations plan to tell Amazon not to build HQ2 in a state that does not protect its residents from discrimination for their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Also making the list for the “No Gay? No Way!” campaign are Austin, Dallas, Nashville, Columbus, Indianapolis, Miami, Raleigh, and the Washington suburbs of Northern Virginia.
The organizations were planning a demonstration near Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle today. You can find out more about the campaign at nogaynoway.com.
Amazon named Atlanta as one of 20 finalists for HQ2, a $5 billion project that could bring as many as 50,000 jobs.
Which gay rights organizations?
Well, this is an interesting twist to the situation. I very much enjoyed your editorial in the February ATL INtown. The plot thickens.
