Democrat Matthew Wilson defeated Republican incumbent Rep. Meagan Hanson for the District 80 state House seat, which represents Brookhaven and a piece of southern Sandy Springs along Ga. 400.

Wilson, an attorney, won 52.46 percent of the vote, according to unofficial counts.

“I’m so honored and grateful to have the trust and support of my neighbors in House District 80 as their next State Representative. Thank you to everyone who believed in me and my campaign for representation that serves EVERYONE across north Atlanta. I can’t wait to get to work on our behalf,” Wilson said in a written statement on Nov. 8.

Hanson issued a written statement saying the numbers came up short in her reelection bid.

“I can honestly say that it has been a pleasure to represent House District 80. I hope you know that I worked extremely hard for you, and we accomplished much together in a short time,” she said. “I am thankful for the overwhelming passage of the Brunch Bill, but I am disappointed that the hate crime legislation I championed will likely be stalled for quite some time. Thank you for your confidence and support over the last two years.”

Hanson won the seat in 2016, defeating a Democratic incumbent.
