Two people have been arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run after their cars struck a woman crossing Clairmont Road on Oct. 19.
Linda Powell, 55, was struck and killed by two vehicles while crossing the busy Brookhaven intersection near Metro Atlanta Christian Church.
Powell was on foot when she crossed Clairmont Road at Canmot Drive, which does not have crosswalks.
Brookhaven Police responded to multiple calls and found Powell deceased at the scene. The drivers of the two unrelated vehicles fled the scene.
Using witness testimony and video footage from nearby businesses, police were able to track down the vehicle drivers – Koechiesta Smith, 51, and Hugo Valente, 21 – who were arrested on Oct. 23 and taken to DeKalb County Jail.
Brookhaven Police said an investigation into both individuals is still ongoing and additional charges may be filed at a later date.
