The Georgia Department of Transportation is anticipating the project to reconstruct the Peachtree Creek bridge at North Druid HIlls Road near Buford Highway to kick off at the end of April.

At North Druid Hills Road and I-85, GDOT is planning a reverse intersection similar to Ashford Dunwoody and I-285, a new access road along I-85, and a new bridge over Peachtree Creek. GDOT anticipates a three to four month detour while the Peachtree Creek bridge is being built.

With a 90-day closure and detour expected, a GDOT representative said there will be numerous alternative routes.

Signs, postcards, letters, QR codes, social media, and updates from the city of Brookhaven are some of the ways drivers can stay up to date on the stage of the project, said GDOT communications strategist Kyle Collins.

GDOT has been working on drainage and utility lines on the northbound side of Buford Highway for a year. That will soon switch to the southbound side with two lanes in each direction remaining open while the project continues.

In related news, the city of Brookhaven is holding a public input meeting to update to the Bicycle, Pedestrian, Trail Plan. A Multimodal Study open house will take place on Thursday, April 18, from 6-7:30 p.m., at Brookhaven City Hall, 4362 Peachtree Road.
