An Atlanta man is dead after a tree toppled onto his home during early morning storms on Sunday, Feb. 16.

According to WSB-TV, emergency crews were called to a home on Matilda Place in northwest Atlanta around 5 a.m. after receiving reports of someone trapped inside house by a fallen tree. No other details about the incident have been released to the media.

The early morning storms have also left thousands without electricity across the metro. The Georgia Power outage map showed an estimated 81,000 with power at 9 a.m.

The storms that rolled across Georgia overnight brought severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings across the state.

As the rain moves out, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing overnight this week with daytime highs in the upper 30s and 40s.

Trees were down across Dunwoody, causing road closures. At 11 a.m. the City of Dunwoody reported trees down at Adams Road, 5134 Sheridan Lane, and at 4935 Dunwoody Club Drive. A tree was down on power lines on Davantry Drive at Brendon Drive at 10:15 a.m.

Mount Vernon Road in Dunwoody was closed in both directions at the intersection of Mt. Vernon Place at 9 a.m. due to a large tree that brought down power lines. Widespread power outages were reported on the north side of Dunwoody starting in the area of Mt. Vernon Road and Chamblee Dunwoody Road.

Trees were also reported down at 9 a.m. Vernon Lake Drive, Dunwoody Station at Mile Post Drive, Summerset Lane, and Withermere Way, where power lines were involved.

Tucker residents reported power outages around the city, and a fallen tree on Henderson Road forced its closure. Work crews had been notified about the issue. As of 4:20 pm. Feb. 16, about 672 Georgia Power customers were still without electricity, according to its outage map.

In Sandy Springs, around 4 p.m., 51 outages were reported, affecting 2,424 customers.
