Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley, left, with the North Metro SWAT team and council members at a Feb. 25 meeting.

Members of the North Metro SWAT team came home last weekend with a big win.

North Metro SWAT, made up of police officers from Dunwoody, Brookhaven, and Chamblee, brought home the Best SWAT Team trophy at the 2025 South Carolina SWAT Challenge: The Ragnarök.

The intense, three-day competition was held at the Sawmill Training Complex in Laurens, SC during the weekend of Feb. 18. Teams across the state were tested on tactical skills, technical proficiency, mental focus, and physical endurance through seven challenging events.

Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley said North Metro SWAT showed exceptional determination, expertise, and teamwork.

“Here in Brookhaven, our officers do an excellent job with policing with empathy and compassion, dedicated to engagement with our community. This is representative of remaining trained, prepared, and ready to protect life and property. I am proud of the balance officers maintain by policing with compassion while being prepared to respond even during the most dangerous time,” Gurley said.

This is the first year the North Metro SWAT has won without the Sandy Springs Police Department, which peeled off from the SWAT team in December 2024.
