1. Wayfair to open retail store in former Walmart on Howell Mill Road

🛋️ Online furniture retailer Wayfair will open its second brick-and-mortar location in 2026 at the former Walmart space in The District at Howell Mill shopping center.

The Boston-based retailer has leased the 150,000-square-foot space at 1801 Howell Mill Rd. and will convert the former Walmart store left vacant after a fire in 2023.

The new location is strategically positioned near Wayfair’s McDonough distribution center, which the company says will enable faster delivery of large items, such as sofas, to customers in the area.

3. Painting Macon pink for the 43rd annual Cherry Blossom Festival

🌸 Macon’s annual Cherry Blossom Festival starts on March 21.  Predicting exactly when cherry blossoms will bloom is a tricky business, so Macon leaders want to make sure visitors see plenty of pink no matter when they arrive.

Visit Macon does not want to disappoint tourists who come in search of blossoms but may miss them, so the organization provided $250 grants to multiple businesses to dress storefronts before the 10-day festival opens.

The Best in Show will be awarded $1,500 during the week of the festival. The competition will award $1,000 to the Eco Champion for using recycled, upcycled, or repurposed materials, and to the Show Stopper who receives the most social media attention.
