The Spark 5K, a yearly race that raises money in support of nonprofits, is returning to Atlanta for its third annual event on May 8.
Taking place at Piedmont Park, the event brings together Atlantans for a fun marathon that encourages participants to “run, walk or wheel” to the finish line, according to the Spark 5K website.
Just like in previous years, the Spark 5K said that it will also continue its tradition of encouraging local businesses to come out and compete in the race — with corporate awards on the line, such as “most spirited,” “most creative” and “most engaged” — and to make an impact on the community at large.
Proceeds from the marathon will go towards supporting The Kyle Pease Foundation, a nonprofit that advocates for inclusion in sports for in-chair athletes, and Share the Magic Foundation, an organization that empowers children’s lives through literacy.
Last year alone, the event raised over $45,000 for the two local nonprofits.
Atlanta natives Kyle Pease and Malcolm Mitchell — the founders of The Kyle Pease Foundation and Share the Magic Foundation, respectively — will both be in-attendance at this year’s race.
“The Spark 5K is an incredible event that embodies the values of inclusion, teamwork, and perseverance, and we’re excited to be part of the third edition,” said Pease. “Seeing our athletes cross the finish line alongside corporate teams and other participants is a testament to what’s possible when a community unites for a shared purpose.”
Hosting the Spark 5K is Roark, an investment firm that supports “consumer and business services sectors, with a specialization in franchised and multi-location businesses,” according to a release.
“Roark’s mission is to help people and companies reach their full potential, and we make sure this comes through in everything we do, including our social impact initiatives,” said Allison Hill, head of Diversity & Social Responsibility at Roark. “We look forward to seeing the Atlanta business community come together for a night of camaraderie, fun, and purpose, and a little friendly competition.”
Each registered participant will receive a Spark 5K branded tee. Additionally, winners in each category of the event will also be honored with special prizes.
Registration for individuals and corporate teams are open and can be found on the Spark 5K website.
