At its annual fundraiser on March 28, Spruill Center for the Arts made several major announcements during its annual fundraiser, Artistic Affair, which this year served as the kickoff of the nonprofit’s 50th anniversary.
The annual fundraising event, held in the renovated courtyard at the Spruill Education Center in Dunwoody, raised $112,000 for the organization, including more than $19,000 in individual donations to go towards providing educational scholarships for adults and children.
Among other celebrations during the evening, Spruill Center for the Arts announced a new organizational logo that incorporates an overall logo for the organization, and specialized sub-branding logos for the various programs offered including Education, the Spruill Gallery, and Spruill Events. The new logo can be seen at on the Spruill website.
The organization also announced the beginning of the Larch Creative Fund, established from an endowment, that will provide annual awards of $50,000 towards creative projects throughout the state of Georgia. The Creative Fund will begin accepting applications from artists, organizations, and community groups on April 1.
There will also be scholarships for adults and children in all classes and summer camp programs throughout the year. With more than $37,000 in scholarships awarded to date, the organization announced a goal of making available up to $100,000 in scholarships in 2025.
Spruill also announced 50 free Taste of Spruill community workshops throughout the year, in a variety of mediums. The Taste of Spruill workshops are typically held on the second Saturday and Sunday of each month and are available for registration beginning at 9:00 on the first of each month. April’s workshops include Intro to Collage with Moira Deninno, Fused Glass Suncatcher with Karen Ordway, Intro to 3-D Printing with John Doane and Make a Fabric Bookmark with Sarah Lyons. Information on Taste of Spruill workshops is available here.
The annual Bob Kinsey Award, given annually to recognize three hallmarks of former CEO Bob Kinsey’s tenure at Spruill (dedication to Spruill Center for the Arts, passion for the Arts, inspiration of others through their work), was awarded to a fixture of Spruill, Ken Horvath, who spearheaded the ceramics department for 23 years before retiring last year.
