The discovery of a breach in the Rice Street Jail perimeter fencing on June 5 led to the seizure of contraband inside the jail.
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office staff found a hole in a hole in an exterior jail window. That prompted a shakedown of the corresponding housing zone.
The contraband seized included:
- 32 packs of cigarettes
- Five bags of loose cigarettes
- Eight packs of rolling paper
- Five lighters
- 10 baggies of suspected marijuana (approx. 1 lb. total)
- Three cell phone chargers
- Four cell phones
- One digital scale
The discovery by the K-9 unit sergeant came a day after three individuals were arrested on June 4 outside the South Annex facility in Union City.
Matthew Abdul-Baqi, Malachi Abdul-Baqi, and Asia Henry were found with a cutting tool near a hole in the perimeter fencing. The suspects had a bag with the following contraband:
- Five packs of cigarettes
- Five cell phones
- 11 cell phone chargers
- Two vape pens
- 10 McDonald’s cheeseburgers
- Five oatmeal raisin cookies
- One hammer
- One set of bolt cutters
- Marijuana – approximately 70 grams
- Assortment of candy
The three suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, according to Fulton County Jail records.
None of the contraband made it into the South Annex facility. Investigators found no evidence linking the two incidents.
