DeKalb Police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a beloved Tucker institution June 16 around 7 p.m.

According to a social media post by Matthews Cafeteria, a suspect, after robbing the store of an undisclosed amount of money, drove away in a black Acura MDX. The restaurant’s owners encouraged residents to share the picture, and DeKalb Police is also seeking information about the man’s whereabouts.

Neither the Matthews Cafeteria post, nor the DeKalb County Police post, indicated whether or not the suspect was armed. People on social media were outraged about the incident, bemoaning the impact on the family-owned institution that has been in business since 1955.

“We are a small mom and pop and this really hurts,” the cafeteria posted on Facebook.

According to DeKalb Police, surveillance video captured the car’s Georgia license plate number, DAZ8296, and a suspect has been identified, reported by FOX 5 Atlanta to be 63-year-old Terrence Tamplin.

According to DeKalb County Jail Records, Tamplin has been arrested multiple times from 1987 to 2012, charged with a variety of offenses including burglary, larceny, failure to appear on previous charges, DUI, probation violation, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and fleeing from police.

Rough Draft has requested an incident report from the DeKalb Police department and will update the story as more information is known.
