Key Points:
• Sandy Springs City Council approved a lease amendment with Georgia Power to enable the city to make improvements to the Morgan Falls Dog Park.
• The city must pay Georgia Power $10 for the lease amendment.

A second amendment to a lease agreement with Georgia Power will enable Sandy Springs to make improvements to its dog park at Morgan Falls, which is located next to the Chattahoochee River.
Brent Walker, the city’s director of recreation and parks, said during the Sandy Springs City Council’s Oct. 21 meeting that the city entered into the original lease agreement in April 2012 to provide river access and a dog park for the community. The first amendment to the lease in May 2022 allowed the construction of the first section of the Springway Trail.
“Since that time, city staff have completed the consensual design for the improvements of the Morgan Falls Dog Park and submitted that for review to Georgia Power,” Walker said.
Walker said Georgia Power told the city the second amendment was necessary because conductive materials would be used in the dog park improvements. Those include new shade structures, dog agility equipment, a wash station, improved ground cover, and drainage.
The city must pay Georgia Power $10 for the second amendment.
Walker said that once the lease is approved, the city can move ahead with construction documents, as Georgia Power has agreed to the concept.
“This gives us the authority to have access to the property to do the construction,” Walker said.
A water meter should be installed soon to provide water for the dog wash station.
