A North Springs High graduate, who flew as an F-18 pilot for scenes in “Top Gun: Maverick” will speak at Sandy Springs’ 16th Annual Veterans Day Tribute on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Retired U.S. Navy Commander Frank Weisser, a two-time Blue Angels Aviator, will speak on Veterans Day at 11 a.m. in Byers Theatre at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center.
Weisser was deployed to combat three separate times, according to the release. He graduated from North Springs High School and the United States Naval Academy. He joined the Blue Angels in September 2007. Weisser has accumulated more than 5,000 flight hours and nearly 500 carrier landings.
In September 2009, he earned a master’s degree in Systems Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School.
Weisser earned decorations that include multiple Meritorious Service Medals, Strike Flight Air Medals, and various personal and unit awards. He is type-rated in the Gulfstream 450/550/700/800 and is the manager of a private airpark in the north Georgia mountains.
The release said the event will feature the Sandy Springs Fire and Police Honor Guard, patriotic music by the Sandy Springs Middle School Choir, and a tribute to veterans by each service branch.
