Trans-led organizations TWOC Healing Project and Game Changing Men are hosting the fourth annual “I Was Here: A Celebration in Honor of Trans Day of Remembrance” on Nov. 15.

The gala will honor the trans men and women who have paved the way for today’s trans community, including Sir Lady Java, Marsha P. Johnson, Gabriel, and more. Attendees are invited to come red carpet-ready to Ambient Plus Studio in South Atlanta for a night of live music, awards, delicious food, dancing, and life-lifting energy.

The gala coincides with Trans Day of Remembrance on Nov. 20. TDOR is an annual observance, started in 1999 by advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith, honoring the memory of trans people whose lives were lost to acts of violence.

“[The event] is more than a gala, it is a celebration of culture, resilience, and community,” TWOC Healing Project said. “Through spoken word, live music, and wellness rituals, the evening invites guests into a space of reflection and growth. We honor the elders who came before us, uplift the legacies of those no longer with us, and plant seeds for the generation syet to come. Anchored in the symbolism of roots, trees, and branches, this gathering affirms our ancestry while nurturing a future grounded in healing and resistance.”

Tickets to “I Am Here” begin at $15 for general admission and $50 for a table for two and two drink tickets. Tickets can be purchased here.
