Ignite ATL Inc. has appointed Darrell Booker as strategic partner, bringing a former Microsoft executive to the youth-focused nonprofit operating in the Blandtown neighborhood along the Westside Beltline.
Booker previously led initiatives at Microsoft focused on digital equity, nonprofit innovation, and responsible AI education. At Ignite ATL, he will work to expand programming in areas including AI learning, digital storytelling, robotics, media production, and entrepreneurship for young people.
“Darrell has the kind of experience and vision that can move an entire city forward,” said Ignite ATL founder Kandis Knight. “His understanding of technology, paired with his commitment to young people, makes him the ideal partner.”
Booker said he sees potential in the organization’s approach. “What Ignite ATL is building in Blandtown has the potential to change the course for generations of young people,” he said. “I am honored to contribute to this work and to support a neighborhood with such deep history and promise.”
Blandtown is one of Atlanta’s oldest Black-founded neighborhoods and played a role in the Westside’s industrial development. The area is now part of planning efforts by the City of Atlanta and partners to develop a creative and technological corridor along this section of the Beltline.
Ignite ATL’s programming focuses on providing training, tools, and mentorship to young people from Atlanta neighborhoods, with an emphasis on career pathways in creative and technological fields.
