Cinematographer Roger Deakins and his wife and collaborator James Deakins will host a class for Georgia State University students on March 18.

The class will take place while the couple is in town celebrating the release of Roger’s new book, “Reflections on Cinematography,” and for a series of screenings taking place at the Plaza and Tara Theatres March 17-19.

According to an email blast from the Atlanta Film Society, the class is exclusively for Georgia State students, but the organizers have set aside four seats for Atlanta Film Society members to be able to watch as the couple helps students with lighting and camera questions as they work on a scene.

Atlanta Film Society members have until March 15 at 11:59 p.m. to submit their names for consideration.

Only members of the Atlanta Film Society can submit their names for this opportunity. Interested parties can sign up for membership online

Update: after the publication of this article, the Atlanta Film Society removed the word “masterclass” from the event description and offered updated details for the event. The society also extended the deadline to submit for this event from March 11 to March 15.
