Tucker community members met last weekend at City Hall to share insights and get a glimpse into the development of the master plan for Henderson Park.
During the two-day open house on June 5 and 6, citizens shared feedback on options for the park, placing red and green stickers on inspiration visuals for additions to the park that they hated and loved, respectively.
Cooper Carry, the architectural and design firm behind the master plan development, presented ideas for playgrounds, water play structures, slides and swings, trails and trail signage, restrooms, woodland restoration, accessible paths, Lake Erin shore restoration, park sculptures, forest art, dog parks, seating areas, boardwalks and landings, and pavilions during the event.

Ideas presented during the open house were informed by the results of the Henderson Park Master Plan Community Survey. Among the 1,237 people who participated in the survey, the park’s trails were an overwhelming favorite. Nearly 60% of responses naming the trails as a primary reason for attending the parks, more than 70% called them a favorite feature of the park, and almost 60% said that trail improvements should be a master plan priority.

Survey responders expressed support for prioritizing connections between the east and west sides of the park (about 35%), improved and additional bathrooms (about 34%), and signage throughout the park (about 25%).
Among the biggest concerns of responders were the cleanliness and/or number of restrooms (about 35%) and the condition of trails (about 30%).
Cooper Carry was granted the contract by members of the Tucker City Council in March to conduct a 27-week community-engagement strategy toward the development of the Henderson Park master plan. The firm will present a preliminary plan to the Tucker City Council during a work session on June 22, and an additional open house with a more detailed plan will be hosted on July 16. The council is expected to vote on a final plan in September.
