The dog days of Tucker

Friday, June 26 — Welcome back! Next weekend is the Fourth of July, but did you know that today is an equally important holiday? That’s right, it’s Bring Your Dog to Work Day. If you can’t bring your pups to the office, bring them to the Corner Cup instead. Visit with your dog to receive a free pup cup and treats all summer long.

Next week’s newsletter will be abbreviated while I enjoy the holiday weekend. This week, though, we’ve got a rundown on some July 4th activities happening in and around Tucker, plus some other fun stories:

🍎 Main Street Theatre stages “Snow White: The Melodrama!” this weekend. Tickets are $10 and free for kids under five.

🛹 Mama Debbie’s Art Emporium hosts the Skate Deck Art Show on June 27. The exhibit includes skateboard decks painted and designed by local artists. The event begins at 6 p.m. and will include a performance by El Chupacobras.

🎨 The Tucker Junkers crafting meet-up returns on Saturday at the Cofer Library at 11 a.m.

🐶 Have a pawsome weekend,
Katie

High schoolers find support at Acceleration Academies

🎒 For some students, graduating from high school can be challenging. For students who are pregnant, experiencing homelessness, working to support their families, or who are just struggling with the traditional school structure, a different kind of education is necessary –  one in which they can make their own schedules and work at their own pace. Acceleration Academies provides this kind of education to students in Tucker and DeKalb County.

“Acceleration Academies is a place for students who may have been through things in their life, or maybe they just did not fit into the regular school standards, and they need an alternative means of getting their high school diploma,” Krystal Braxton, the Director of DeKalb County Acceleration Academies, told Rough Draft.
