One nation, indivisible

Friday, July 3 — Happy Independence Day! I’ve been out of town, so this week’s newsletter will be briefer than usual. First, we’ll get into some quick Tucker tidbits before rehashing some old stories to check out if you missed them the first time around.

🗽 On July 4, Atlanta-based designer Isabella Lenahan will be at Infinite Realities signing copies of Archie Comics Celebrates America’s 250th with the variant cover she designed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

🧘 Tucker Brewing Company is closed on Saturday for the 4th of July but will reopen on Sunday with a Balance in the Biergarten yoga class led by instructors from Be Tru Studios at noon. Tickets are $20 and include the hour-long class and a beer of your choice.

☀️ The Tucker Parks and Rec department is hosting two free workout classes on July 8 at the Tucker Rec Center. Pilates starts at 6 p.m., followed by power yoga at 7:15 p.m.

🎨 Arts DeKalb invites residents, artists, arts organizations, and cultural leaders to participate in upcoming community meetings, designed to gather public input and help shape the future of arts and culture throughout DeKalb County. Tucker residents can attend meetings at Reid H. Cofer Library on July 7 and 14 at 6 p.m.

🇺🇸 Enjoy your holiday weekend,
Katie

Tucker City Council approves 2027 budget that prioritizes greenway

💰 Members of the Tucker City Council approved a budget for fiscal year 2027 during a meeting earlier this month.

The council members approved the budget with an amendment that allocated an additional $500,000 in the fiscal year 2028 budget away from Hugh Howell improvements and toward the South Fork Peachtree Creek Greenway in order to prioritize the completion of phase one by 2029. The project will connect 32 miles of trails between Tucker’s downtown and Emory University. This $500,000 would go toward the estimated $1.5 million needed to complete the first phase of the project.

More than $1 million in the 2027 budget was moved to fund the South Fork project during the council’s budget workshops. The funds were moved from allocations toward DeKalb Fire Station Trail Head Parking Spaces, the Downtown Archway, and sidewalks on Hugh Howell Road.
