After opening last season with a 19-0 loss at Jefferson, Marist was able to use a 16-12 win over Woodward Academy to kick its regular season into gear. Wins over Northview, Druid Hills, Southwest DeKalb, and North Springs by a combined score of 199-13 helped the War Eagles take the driver’s seat in Region 5-4A early in the season. St. Pius X gave them a good test, but the Golden Lions could not get the job done as Marist won, 28-21. The War Eagles closed out the regular season with dominant wins over Clarkston, Lithonia and Tucker, finishing undefeated in the region. In the playoffs, Marist dominated Starr’s Mill and Blessed Trinity to extend its streak of making it to at least the quarterfinals to nine years. The War Eagles then faced North Oconee, which defeated them in the 2024 Class 4A state championship. They got their revenge, winning 23-20 in a chaotic road game. Marist’s season came to an end with a 28-20 loss to Benedictine in the semifinals, and the War Eagles were unable to return to the state championship.
Marist has multiple gaps to fill on offense in 2026, as James Lasco will not be quarterbacking the team. Lasco threw for 739 yards last year and scored 11 times on the ground. The team also loses Parks Kaiser, who graduated after dominating the run game with 10 touchdowns. Engin McCarthy does return to command the defense, a big help for Chadwick’s 2026 squad.
