Friday, Aug. 7 — If you’re a parent (or a student – yay to young people reading the news!), I hope the first week of school went smoothly and you’re ready for the year ahead. If not … well, thankfully it’s the weekend!
If you’re a pet parent, we’ve got some goodies for you, including news on a locally owned veterinary care center and a pup-friendly fundraiser this weekend. But first:
🎸 The Tucker Summer of Fun continues with a concert tonight at Tucker Town Green. The Mad Hatters will take the stage at 7 p.m. Get there at 5:30 p.m. to secure your spot!
🚗 The monthly Tucker Cruise-in returns on Saturday at 10 a.m. Head to Main Street to get a glimpse of some great old-school cars.
⛲ Community members will have an opportunity to share their input on the plan for the Northlake district during a feedback meeting on August 13 at City Hall. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Those who cannot attend can complete a survey or share their insights at a pop-up engagement location; we’ll have more info on that next week!

Pups & Pumps raises money with BBQ on Saturday
🐶 Pups & Pumps Charity will host its first annual Community BBQ on Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the large pavilion at Chapel Hill Park, 3985 Lehigh Blvd.
The free, family-friendly event, co-founded by Lee Ayers and Bodae Vogt, will bring together neighbors, local supporters and animal lovers for an afternoon of food, games and community engagement while raising awareness for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Vogt told Rough Draft that the organization has partnered with LifeLine Animal Project to provide free vaccinations for the first 50 animals whose owners register for the event.

Ogle School brings beauty education to Tucker
✂️ Tucker residents will have a new opportunity for a career development this fall. Ogle School, the award-winning beauty and hair school, will welcome the inaugural class of its new Tucker location in September.
Ogle School is a private NACCAS-accredited post-secondary institution, equipping students with the skills to pursue careers in the beauty industry. Tucker is the 11th location for the Texas-based company and the second in Georgia, joining the Lee + White location in Atlanta.
The school offers students two different pathways – cosmetology and esthetics – on both part- and full-time schedules.

Tucker welcomes Magnolia Vet
🐱 Inspired by their experiences working together in corporate veterinary medicine, Dr. Kelly Rosenhauer and Kelsea Dowsley have opened a new practice in Tucker that emphasizes a comprehensive approach to care for both animals and the employees who serve them.

At Magnolia Veterinary Care, this is a statistic Dr. Rosenhauer and Dowsley hope to combat.
