AI doesn’t mean ‘All In’

We are in the midst of publishing a 56-page print edition, which means that I’m about half crazy with the tectonic plates that epitomize the production cycle. 🙏🏼 Dunwoody will commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 with a special day of commemoration. Dunwoody City Hall will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for community members to learn, remember, and share personal connections to a day that changed history.

AI policies, rezoning at marathon meeting
💻 The Dunwoody City Council at its Aug. 24 meeting discussed its use of AI and the development of policies that would dictate the ethical use of the platform in city operations.
The policy would address, according to Ginger LePage, the city’s technology director, public trust and accountability, human oversight, lawfulness and transparency, fairness and non-discrimination, and data protection and security.
The council also approved, by a 5-1 vote on second reading, a rezoning of several plats from Office-Industrial (O-I) to Planned Development (PD) to allow construction of 122 townhomes on 11 acres on Ashford Dunwoody Road that currently houses an office building and a large parking lot.
While several council members were pleased with the overall plan, John Heneghan said the PD designation was “a slap in the face to those who follow the rules.”

SAP enters second phase
📚 On Aug. 21, the DeKalb County School District announced the continuation of its Student Assignment Project, inviting families, students, staff, and community members from six school clusters to help shape how new and expanded schools will serve students beginning in 2027.
This fall, the district is focused on overcrowded schools in the Lakeside, Cross Keys, Chamblee, Tucker, Dunwoody and Druid Hills clusters, which will be affected by new and expanded schools opening from 2027 to 2029, according to a release from the school district.
Those projects include Dresden Elementary School, Cross Keys High School (pictured above during a SAP meeting last year), Sequoyah Middle School, Sequoyah High School, and Idlewood Elementary School, along with the addition of a new high school cluster.

A thorny question
‼️ The Dunwoody Preservation Trust will present an interesting topic on Sept. 26 at its latest History Alive event: “Choosing Sides During the American Revolution: Would You Have Been a Loyalist or a Patriot?”
An award-winning historian specializing in early American history, the American Revolution and the colonial South, Dr. Greg Brooking will explore the difficult choices Georgians faced on the eve of the Revolution and ask the question: “If you had lived in Georgia in 1775, which side would you have chosen?”
The answer, he said, may not be as obvious as it seems today.
No reservations are needed for the complimentary event, which will be held at the Donaldson-Banister Farm from 9:30-11 a.m.

If AI says it, trust, but verify
♻️ My “inquiring-minds-want-to-know” friend Nancy sent me this picture she took at Brook Run of the Goodyear Blimp while recycling about 75 wine bottles that she consumes weekly (just kidding, it was a party).
I asked Google if it was true (it said “yes”) and then I verified it with the Angel Flight Soar Facebook page, which said the blimp is stationed at the DeKalb Peachtree Airport and is probably in town for a variety of sporting events, including this weekend’s PGA Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.
Fun fact: I once took the wheel, for a minute, to pilot the MetLife Blimp. Many people were close by to make sure no rash decisions were made.
