During its 15th annual event, the Georgia Latino International Film Festival will honor veteran actor, writer, director, and producer Roberto Sanchez with its Excellence in Filmmaking Award.
The awards ceremony will take place on Sept. 30 at the Fox Theatre, according to a press release. The festival will continue from Sept. 30 through Oct. 4, celebrating the festival’s “quinceañera” with five days of films and community.
“Longevity in Hollywood isn’t an accident; it is built on discipline, quiet preparation, and creating the doors you wish were open when you started,” said Sanchez in the release. “To be recognized by the Georgia Latino Film Alliance at the historic Fox Theatre is deeply humbling. I share this honor with every storyteller working every single day to ensure our voices cannot be ignored.”
Born in Cuba and raised in Miami, Sanchez is best known for his roles in movies like “2 Fast 2 Furious” and television series like “Cape Fear” and “Palm Royale.” He has more than 150 film and television credits, according to the release.
Sanchez has also worked behind the camera, including an upcoming short film called “The Café” that, according to IMDB, is in pre-production.
“Roberto Sanchez embodies the undeniable power of resilience and self-determination,” said Dr. Jose Marquez, CEO and founder of the film festival, in the release. “He didn’t wait for permission to build a remarkable 25-year legacy. Today, he is leveraging his platform to dismantle systemic barriers, mentor emerging talent, and redefine how Latino stories are told and valued globally.”
