The Piedmont Park Conservancy is bringing the holiday season to life at Piedmont Park with the return of Light Up the Season on Sunday, Nov. 22.
This year, the Conservancy will debut a Holiday Lantern Parade as part of the event, inviting Atlantans to join a glowing procession through the park and gather for the annual lighting of the Great Tree, Menorah, and Kinara.
The free celebration begins at 3:30 p.m. at Greystone with a Lantern-Making Party, where guests can create their own festive lantern, according to an announcement from the conservancy.
At 5 p.m., participants will join the inaugural Holiday Lantern Parade, led by the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable, winding through Piedmont Park before arriving in the Meadow for the annual lighting ceremony.
The new parade is designed to bring the community together in a uniquely Atlanta holiday experience, combining creativity, music and movement with the tradition of gathering in the park to mark the holiday season, the release said.
Presented with support from The Speedwell Foundation, the illuminated displays will remain in the park through Jan. 4.
“Light Up the Season is about bringing people together, and the Lantern Parade gives Atlantans a new way to experience and share the holiday spirit,” said Doug Widener, president and CEO of Piedmont Park Conservancy. “This year we’re adding the parade to the celebration, and we’re excited to see the Park come alive with handmade lanterns, music, and friends and families enjoying time together.”
Light Up the Season is free and open to the public. Reservations are encouraged for the Lantern-Making Party. For more information, reservations and updates on the full season of programming, visit piedmontpark.org/light-up-the-season.
