Friday, Sept. 11 — Today is the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The attacks left 2,977 people dead and thousands more injured. A quarter of a century later, we remember the victims and the ongoing impact the tragedy had on the U.S.
This morning, the DeKalb County Police Department held a special ceremony honoring the victims of 9/11 at the police headquarters in Tucker. Tomorrow, a 5K honoring the heroes of 9/11 will be held at Grant Park in Atlanta at 9:11 a.m. Registration is still open.
Speaking of America’s hometown heroes, Tucker’s veterans will again have a place to gather as the American Legion Post #207 is completed later this year. Read on to learn more, but first:

🚗 The Tucker Cruise-in returns to Main Street on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

🍷 Wine and Whimseys hosts a wine tasting and book signing with local author Lisa Schoolcraft on Thurs., Sept. 17, at 5 p.m. The event is free.

$150k donation secures reopening of Post #207
🎖️ More than seven years after a fire destroyed American Legion Post #207 in Tucker, the community space dedicated to fostering connection among veterans will reopen later this year after an anonymous $150,000 donation.
Donations slowed in 2025, and as of only a couple months ago, the post was still $150,000 short of being fully rebuilt. That is, until a Tucker resident and veteran made an anonymous donation covering the entirety of the funds still needed. With this donation, Scott Brady told Rough Draft that he’s hoping for the post to be reopened by Veterans’ Day later this year, bringing a much needed resource back to Tucker’s veterans and their families.

Dr. Sauce is sole finalist for DeKalb superintendent
🏫 The DeKalb County Board of Education, at its Sept. 14 board meeting, will introduce interim superintendent Dr. Norman C. Sauce III as the sole finalist to lead the nearly 100,000-student district.
If approved, Sauce would be named the finalist in the board’s search for the next superintendent, with the final vote anticipated to take place on Oct. 5, according to a release from DCSD.
The previous superintendent, Devon Q. Horton, resigned after the U.S. Attorney indicted him on 17 charges for acts he allegedly committed while serving as superintendent of Evanston-Skokie School District 65 in Illinois.

Cows are coming to DeKalb
🐄 Cows are coming to DeKalb County! The 12+1 Initiative is a new county-wide public art project bringing a herd of customized painted cows to each city in DeKalb.
Life-size fiberglass cows are currently being delivered to 12 cities in DeKalb County to be transformed by local and regional artists into one-of-a-kind creations celebrating the creativity, culture, and character of each community.
Why the cow? It’s a nod to the county’s history as the dairy capital of Georgia and largest Grade A milk producer in the South.
