Happy Tucktoberfest
Friday, Sept. 18 — Hello again! Autumn is just around the corner (the final day of summer is Sept. 21), and with the cooler weather comes a wealth of fall fun. Tucktoberfest begins at Tucker Brewing Company this weekend. Saturday’s event, which kicks off the two-week festival, will include live music, Oktoberfest-themed games, and the inaugural keg tapping by Mayor Anne Lerner.
Tucktoberfest lasts until Oct. 3, just in time for the Taste of Tucker food festival. And if you have a hankering for more Oktoberfest fun, Tucker’s Ten-Tober festival comes to Main Street on Oct. 17.
So, make sure you keep your weekends open and get ready to enjoy some autumnal merriment, the Tucker way!
😃 The Optimist Club of Tucker hosts a Kids Day in the Park on Saturday at 11 a.m. The free event will bring food trucks, field day games, and crafts to the greenspace on Church Street.
🎭 Main Street Theatre hosts a kids’ improv day on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. The day brings middle and high school students together for high-energy games led by experienced improvisers.
🎉 Hosting an event soon? Stone Ridge Event Center will have an open house on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Attendees of the free event will tour the facility, meet with vendors, and sample food and cocktails.
💬 The One Northlake community survey has closed, and results will be shared during a meeting on Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. at Tucker City Hall.
📝 The TKR 101 class series started this week. The monthly class meets on the third Tuesday of every month and teaches residents about the city’s goings-on.

DeKalb BOE split over Dr. Sauce
🗳️ A sharply divided DeKalb County Board of Education voted 4-3 to name interim superintendent Dr. Norman C. Sauce III as the sole finalist for the top post.
The previous superintendent, Devon Q. Horton, resigned after the U.S. Attorney indicted him on 17 charges for acts he allegedly committed while serving as superintendent of Evanston-Skokie School District 65 in Illinois.
The board placed Horton on leave and appointed Sauce, then the chief of student services, as the acting superintendent. He was then elevated to the title of interim superintendent last November.
Board members criticized the process, not the candidate.

City Council approves ban on transient pet sales
🐕 During the monthly meeting on Sept. 14, members of the Tucker City Council approved an ordinance prohibiting the transient sale of animals at locations like roadsides, fairs, commercial parking lots, and other outdoor locations.
Pop-up sales of dogs, cats, and rabbits are already illegal under state law, but the approved ordinance allows city code enforcement workers to enforce the rule. Violation of the ordinance will result in fines of up to $500 for a third or subsequent offense.

DeKalb breaks ground on $10.5 million fire station
🚒 DeKalb County broke ground on the new $10.5 million Fire Station No. 5 in Tucker, a new two-story, 14,600-square-foot facility signifying an investment in the health and safety of firefighters in the county.
Located at 4329 Cowan Road, the facility will replace the existing station on Lawrenceville Highway, which was built in 1955 and is one of the oldest fire stations still operating in DeKalb County.
In other DeKalb fire rescue news, local firefighters began the 37th annual “Give Burns the Boot” fundraising campaign on Sept. 13 to raise money to support the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.
