The new and improved Morgan Falls Dog Park with new shade canopies and two fenced areas will open in early October, with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Improvements to the existing dog park include two phases: regrading the 3.4-acre site to alleviate muddy conditions and installing new grass, benches and a washing station.

While the park was closed in late September, crews were spotted on Sept. 24 with ladders installing the shade structures.

Dog park on Springway

One of the community’s most common complaints in a 2024 survey was a lack of dry conditions at the dog park along the Chattahoochee River. Earthwork in fall 2024 included channeling water away from the park, regrading, and removing a few trees.

According to the city’s 2027 budget, about $560,000 of the project’s $1.04 million budget has been spent, with the remaining balance anticipated to be expended in the current fiscal year.

Last October, the city updated its land lease with Georgia Power to allow its contractor to make on-site improvements, including the new shade structures and wash station, dog agility equipment, improved ground cover, and drainage.

The dog park sits along an existing segment of the Springway Trail from Morgan Falls Overlook Park across Orkin Lake to Cimarron Parkway and Roswell Road (SR 9).
