3. Atlanta artist Kiera Rahming-Reed on memory, wood, and what we hide
VIA SKETCHBOOK, A WEEKLY NEWSLETTER ABOUT ART | SUBSCRIBE
🪵 Kiera Rahming-Reed’s wood works demand a closer look. Beneath the wallpaper, collage, ceramic, rope and paint, the self-taught Atlanta artist’s pieces hold layers you have to lean in to see.
Her practice centers around Black women and the Black queer experience. She is a member of GLAAD’s 2026 Equity in Media and Entertainment Initiative (EMEI) third cohort, and, earlier this year, participated in “Georgia Wood Artists: A Juried Exhibition” at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art.
On Sunday, “Nemesis: Remember,” GLAAD’s first-ever EMEI visual art exhibition, closed at New York’s Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art. Guest-curated by Damon Epps, the show included two of Rahming-Reed’s works among pieces by 10 Black LGBTQ+ artists. Today, her work comes home to the 8th Annual Mayor’s Pride Reception & Art Exhibit at Atlanta City Hall.

4. Atlanta’s Ode Social takes aim at the hardest part of hanging out: making it happen
📱 Aditi Sharma never had a shortage of people who wanted to go and do activities with her – be it a grocery run, catching a film, or going on a hike – while she was a college student at Georgia Tech. What she did have a problem with was getting everyone to agree on a plan.
Those scheduling conflicts left Sharma with a startup idea that has grown into the “IRL” social app Ode Social.
Ode Social works by connecting people nearby based on activities they want to do. Someone might post that they want to go on a group bike ride or check out a new coffee shop, then the app surfaces people close by who might be interested in joining.
