Just after 1 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, Sandy Springs announced the reopening of a section of Johnson Ferry Road in the city’s downtown district. More than 100 homes were evacuated after a gas main was hit around 2 p.m. on Oct. 7.
The gas main at Johnson Ferry Road and Sandy Springs Circle is located near Fire Station 2 and the City Springs district. To repair and secure the gas line, Georgia Power temporarily cut power to the area.

WSB-TV reported that Johnson Ferry Road was closed from Sandy Springs Circle to Bonnie Lane/Wright Road because of the incident.
“Atlanta Gas Light’s top value is the safety of our customers and the communities we serve,” according to the announcement by the utility company. “This afternoon, a third-party performing work unrelated to Atlanta Gas Light damaged our gas line on Johnson Ferry Road in Sandy Springs. Atlanta Gas Light personnel responded and are working to safely repair the damage as quickly as possible.”
