A bullet apparently intended to celebrate the New Year struck a Sandy Springs police patrol car as it cruised I-285 on New Year’s Eve, police reported.
Sandy Springs police Sgt. Danny Nable said he heard a loud “thump,” but didn’t realize what had hit his car until later, when he found a bullet hole in the hood, Sandy Springs police said in a press release Jan. 6. He found the bullet itself lodged in the insulation inside the Dodge Charger’s hood. It had passed through two layers of metal.
No one was injured, but police warned of the danger of firing celebratory shots into the air.
“What goes up is going to come down,” Nable said. “It’s careless, reckless and dangerously irresponsible to risk someone’s life over something as needless as a celebrating by firing a weapon.”
