The Buckhead Community Improvement District on Oct. 25 will consider a proposal to set up 16 cameras around Buckhead, a surveillance network that would tie into the city of Atlanta’s new Video Integration Center.

The Buckhead CID meeting is set for 3:30 p.m. at 3340 Peachtree Road, 15th floor, Tower Place 100. The CID is considering a proposal from the Texas-based firm Iron Sky, which is the company behind the surveillance cameras in Sandy Springs. Iron Sky has more than 200 cameras in the Atlanta area.

Jim Durrett, executive director of the Buckhead CID, said the cameras would be a boon to the police. He said while he understands the cameras cause some people pause because of privacy concerns, he believes on the whole the cameras are worth it.

“I’d say all of Atlanta can use more eyes on the street for safety and security reasons,” Durrett said. “This is, we believe, a very good way to stretch the limited safety resources.”
