A Buckhead pastor’s controversial remarks about homosexuality led to his decision to decline an invitation to deliver a benediction at President Barack Obama’s inauguration on Jan. 21, the Associated Press reported.
Rev. Louie Giglio, pastor of Passion City Church in Buckhead, was invited to deliver the closing prayer. Liberal groups spoke out against the invitation, referencing remarks Giglio made about homosexuality. Giglio endorsed “ex gay” therapy, and the group Think Progress labeled his views “disturbing.”
In a statement to the Associated Press, Giglio said he did not want the controversy to distract from the event.
