Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos, the city’s first mayor and an enduring figure in north Fulton politics, will receive an equally enduring tribute on Wednesday.

The Sandy Springs Society will plant a white oak tree at the intersection of Mt. Vernon Highway and Hammond Drive at 10 a.m., July 31.Parking will be available on Mitchell Road.

“The white oak tree radiates an aura of calm strength and symbolizes dignity, durability and diligence,” Valerie Love, former president of the Sandy Springs Society, said in a press release. “These qualities are reflective of the character and outstanding efforts of our mayor over the years.”

Galambos was first elected in 2005 and is retiring after two terms in office.

The nonprofit organization was founded in 1988 and supports other local nonprofits in the community.
