Atlanta City Councilmember Carla Smith is inviting District 1 residents to a Public Safety Community Day and Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Ormewood Park Presbyterian Church, 1071 Delaware Ave. SE (at the corner of Woodland & Delaware Avenues).

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about District 1 neighborhood associations, community groups, security patrols and watch groups. They will also have an opportunity to peruse information, visit the Community Oriented Policing Section (COPS) van, see the Atlanta Police Department mounted patrols and chat with others about how to build community and what public safety initiatives are working in the neighborhood.

In addition, starting at 11 a.m., a public safety town hall meeting will take place where constituents can ask Mayor Kasim Reed, Police Chief George Turner and other public safety brass about the city’s crime fighting initiatives. During the meeting, Major Keith Meadows will be in attendance to introduce the new Zone 6 Commander Timothy Peek and Zone 3 Commander Major Barbara Cavender will be in attendance as well.

A similar town hall meeting held on Aug. 5 drew nearly 200 people to Drew Charter School in East Atlanta. Another is set for Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Adamsville Recreation Center, 3201 Martin Luther King Jr Drive.
