Political rookie John McCloskey, runner-up in the District 54 Republican primary for the Georgia House of Representatives, says he is suspending his campaign to throw his support behind the frontrunner, Beth Beskin.
McCloskey and Beskin appeared headed for a runoff election after neither garnered enough votes to win the May 20 primary.
“While it does appear that Beth will finish just short of the requisite number of votes needed to avoid a runoff, I told her that I would suspend my campaign in the runoff and support her on July 22,” McCloskey said in an email to his supporters.
Beskin netted 49.9 percent of the votes on May 20, while McCloskey garnered 30.2. Loretta Lepore and S. Angelic Moore trailed at 14.7 and 5.1 percent, respectively.
