Brookhaven Detectives are asking for help identifying a suspected rapist.

Brookhaven Police Detectives released a sketch of the man sought in connection with a rape that occurred April 24, between 9 and 10 p.m. in the area of Buford Highway and North Cliff Valley Way. The woman received injuries and was treated at an Atlanta area hospital.

Detectives believe that the suspect approached her as she walked along Buford Highway. The suspect grabbed the victim’s arm and pulled her in to a wooded area near North Cliff Valley Way after his advances on the female were ignored. The suspect struck the victim in the face several times and forcibly raped her. She fought back and may have caused scratches and bite marks to the suspect’s arms and/or face. The suspect ran off when two other men approached and tried to help the woman.

Police describe the suspect as a 37 to 38-year-old Hispanic man of average build and about 5-foot-8 or 9 inches tall with black hair, brown eyes and bushy eyebrows. His hair was described as close-cut on the sides and thicker on top, with “curls.”

He was described as having a dark complexion and large lips. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

The victim is working with detectives in order to develop a composite sketch of the suspect. That sketch will be released as soon as it is available.

Brookhaven Police detectives would like to speak to anyone with information about this rape or the suspect. Detectives are especially interested in speaking to the two males that approached on foot causing the suspect to flee and then rendered aid to the victim. Those possible witnesses were not on scene when police arrived.
