The newly expanded playground in Chastain Park is expected to open to the public next month, the Chastain Park Conservancy says. Conservancy Executive Director Rosa McHugh says the playground is tentatively scheduled to open about Feb. 15.

The conservancy plans an official opening for the playground on March 19, McHugh told members of the Chastain Park Civic Association during their monthly meeting Jan. 25.

The $2.5 million project expands the playground to 40,000 square feet from 10,000 square feet, the conservancy says on its website. The renovation adds three ground-level slides, other play structures, rest rooms and an area for parents to gather and watch their playing children.

“It’s fun,” McHugh said. “The slides are really fun.”

The playground is located at West Wieuca Road and Dudley Lane.
