Our broadcast partner CBS46 reports that a woman is dead after being shot in the back as she was riding in a vehicle near Piedmont Park early Monday morning.
The incident happened around 1 a.m. on Piedmont Avenue near the 12th Street entrance into the park. According to police, the victim was taken in a private car to Emory Hospital in DeKalb County where she later died during surgery.
The woman shot has been identified as Buckhead resident and business executive Diane McIver, the wife of labor and employment attorney C.L. “Tex” McIver. According to the AJC, a handgun was discharged inside the car striking McIver. Police said they are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, but that McIver was in the car with people she knew.
