A DeKalb Avenue restaurant space will once again become home to a breakfast and brunch spot.

The original location of Flying Biscuit on McLendon Avenue in Candler Park will take over the former Lazy Betty space on DeKalb Avenue, the Atlanta Business Chronicle (ABC) reports.

Lazy Betty closed after five years on DeKalb Avenue earlier this month ahead of its planned relocation to Midtown. Before that, the space was home to longtime breakfast and brunch favorite Radial Cafe, which closed in 2018 after nearly 20 years there.

Franchise owner Joseph Hsaio won’t be renewing the lease on the Candler Park location.

“We plan to open at the new location on June 1.  There will be no interruptions during the move, as we will continue to open and operate as usual,” Hsaio tells Rough Draft. “The new space will be about the same square footage as the current space, just newer and more parking.”

Don’t expect any changes to the menu or the staff once Flying Biscuit relocates from McLendon to DeKalb.

Flying Biscuit celebrated 30 years in business last year. The all-day Southern breakfast chain was founded by Delia Champion and Michelle Speert in 1993, opening on McLendon Avenue in Candler Park. The restaurant withstood the test of time in Candler Park, bearing witness to the changing face of the neighborhood and new restaurants opening along McLendon over the years. This includes Gato across the street, now home to Gigi’s Italian Kitchen.

Champion eventually signed a deal to franchise Flying Biscuit, which included franchising the Candler Park and Midtown locations to Hsaio. The restaurant now has over 30 franchise locations throughout the southeast. Champion went on to open another popular restaurant, Delia’s Chicken Sausage Stand, and launched a successful frozen food brand. She closed both the Moreland Avenue and Marietta Street locations of Delia’s Chicken Sausage Stand in 2022.

As for the reopening of Lazy Betty in the former Empire State South space, co-owner Chef Ron Hsu tells Rough Draft to expect a progress update soon. Michelin awarded the tasting menu restaurant with one star in 2023.

Update, Feb. 27, 2:15 p.m.: This story has been updated with new details from Candler Park franchise owner Joseph Hsaio.
