The Community Assistance Center needs help tackling food insecurity this Thanksgiving season as requests for assistance has risen by 25 percent.

A CAC news release said the nonprofit organization has distributed more than 750,000 pounds of food through its three food pantries this year.

The CAC said the holiday season is a critical time for many households facing food insecurity who have rising costs and stretched budgets that force them to make impossible choices between paying for rent or buying groceries.

CAC relies on community support to stock its pantry shelves and meet the growing demand. The pantry is particularly in need of high-demand items like pasta, canned meats (tuna, chicken, spam), canned vegetables (corn, carrots, tomatoes, beans), rice, cereal, and cooking oil.

Donations can be brought directly to CAC’s food pantry, located at 8607 Roswell Road. Donors who prefer can order food contributions can be ordered from Amazon online for delivery directly to the pantry via http://givenow.ourcac.org/.

Monetary donations to purchase food from food banks, multiplying its impact, can be made at ourcac.org/donate. Each contribution, whether food or funds, makes a tangible impact and brings hope to local families who are struggling to make ends meet, the release said.

CAC is the primary human services organization for neighbors in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody who are facing financial hardships or unexpected emergencies. Founded in 1987, CAC provides basic needs assistance (food, clothing, and financial assistance) while continuously engaging clients to work towards greater self-sufficiency.
