A man was shot at a gas station, and a family narrowly escaped a house fire in separate incidents in Brookhaven.

Around 4:48 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, the Brookhaven Police Department was dispatched to RaceTrac gas station, 3630 Clairmont Road. BPD immediately began providing first aid to a man who had been shot. DeKalb Fire Rescue and an ambulance arrived on scene, and transported the victim to a local trauma center for medical treatment.

BPD has not released further information at this time. WSB-TV is reporting that investigators blocked off the store entrance with crime scene tape, and detectives were focusing their investigation inside the store.

On Redding Road, a family escaped a house fire that began in the back corner of the home around 11 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22. The fire spread to the second story as firefighters used three water lines to douse the home, which suffered some structural collapse according to one report.

A neighbor confirmed that the family and dogs were able to escape from the 7,500+ sq. ft. home. It has extensive damage, the neighbor reported.

This is a developing story.
