Several businesses along Main Street were victims to smash-and-grab burglary attempts sometime during the night of July 7 or early July 8.
According to a social media post on Taste of Tucker’s Facebook page, “several of our beloved Main Street restaurants woke up this morning to smashed windows and unexpected setbacks. “
According to witnesses and social media posts, Ford’s BBQ, Village Burger, and Nicky’s Undefeated, and Yes Eventz were among the businesses hit in the latest round, with glass storefronts smashed.
“These small businesses are the heart of our Tucker community — and the backbone of Taste of Tucker,” the Facebook post said. “Let’s show them the love they’ve always shown us. Dine local. Order takeout. Leave a kind word. Tip generously.”
There has been a rash of break-ins during the last year, even though most yielded little in the way of cash or valuables. In January, The Corner Cup Coffee and Nicky’s Undefeated were burglarized.
The City of Tucker released on social media footage of the January break-in at Nicky’s, which showed a white vehicle pull up to the entrance to the store, two people jump out, and within a minute, smash the plate glass window and take items from behind the counter.
In mid- June, a man stole about a cash drawer containing about $600 from Matthews Cafeteria. Police identified as the suspect as 64-year-old Terrence Tamplin, who, according to DeKalb County Jail records, has been arrested multiple times from 1987 to 2016, charged with a variety of offenses including burglary, larceny, failure to appear on previous charges, DUI, probation violation, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and fleeing from police.
In July 2024, Village Burger, Monster Cravings, Las Colinas, and The Corner Cup were also burglarized.
A representative from Ford’s BBQ said two of its doors were damaged in the latest incident, with one smashed in, and the other suffering damage to the door knob. The restaurant is open, however, with two other entryways available. The rep said nothing of value was taken from the restaurant.
Village Burger was open on July 8, but was just taking debit and credit cards as forms of payment because of the incident. Nicky’s Undefeated was also open for business.
Anyone with information about the incidents can call DeKalb County Police ,or send a tip anonymously through the free Tip411 app or by texting ‘DKPD’ to 847411, followed by the information.
