3. EPA rolls back a coal ash rule minutes after hearing from people living with coal ash
🚂 The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed a rollback of some rules around the management of the toxic material that is left after burning coal to generate electricity – a substance called coal ash.
The announcement of the rule came only minutes after people from around the country, at the agency’s invitation, told the EPA about the dangers and their frustrations with living with coal ash threatening their drinking water.
The proposed EPA rule updates a section of the comprehensive and final coal ash rules published in May 2024.
